With the help of NHL great George Parros and baseball legend Larry Walker, Garth Brooks and Teammates For Kids hosted a youth ball hockey camp in Las Vegas last weekend. Eighty boys and girls from the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Nevada, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada, After School All Stars of Las Vegas, and Little Angels Youth Services spent the day at Lied Memorial Boys & Girls Club working on their ball handling skills and engaging in drills and scrimmages.
Brooks himself visited the camp to encourage the young athletes to practice teamwork and love one another. Larry Walker has been a Teammate since Teammates for Kids began in 1999 and serves on its Board of Directors. Parros has been a Teammate since 2007.
Teammates For Kids presents the Good Teammate Award at each youth sports camp they sponsor. The award recognizes the young athletes who best demonstrate the traits of a Total Teammate, including leadership, toughness, unselfishness, and respect for the game and all of its participants. In Las Vegas, Good Teammate Awards were presented to: Sabrina Moore, age 9; Jaden Whiley, age 11; and Clayton Adams, age 13.
Teammates will continue to partner with Brooks to hold youth sports camps at every city on his World Tour. Brooks and Teammate athletes in each city will volunteer their time to coach kids in football, basketball, baseball, hockey, or soccer.
