The patients and families at the Kravis Children’s Hospital were treated to a very special guest in The Zone on Wednesday, March 16. Honor, a miniature therapy horse, joined the children and adolescents in the huddlenet as they created horse themed artwork. He then continued into the KidZone TV studio and appeared on a live broadcast, to the delight of the studio audience, as well as those watching from their rooms.
The visit was coordinated by Laurie Tietjen and Jorge Garcia-Bengochea from Gentle Carousel Therapy Horses, a non-profit organization that brings miniature horses to visit with pediatric patients and other vulnerable populations.
A police officer accompanied Honor on his visit to talk about how this special horse has also visited police organizations, bringing tremendous therapeutic support.
Zone Clinical Coordinator Cheryl Strauss commented, “The thrill of seeing a horse walk through the door of The Zone and hearing the pitter-patter of hoofs on the floor was topped only by the thrill of watching the excited faces of our patients and families throughout the visit. We are honored to welcome this very special horse into our Zone family.”
